“I want to open a new retail printing business. Where do I begin?”

theONswitch helped Rick Levy, a 28-year veteran of the printing industry, realize his dream — to open his own retail printing and marketing services establishment and go head-to-head with some of the larger service providers.

Imagine — Rick wanted to open the type of print shop where every client is treated like an individual. Quality service would be as important as quality product. Creative ideas would be the norm. And the environment would be fun and welcoming.

Focus —The timetable was tight. Rick was determined to open 6 months after signing a lease. (For starters, theONswitch worked with a professional retail planner to help Rick find the perfect location for his business — in a high-traffic commercial location.) We developed a marketing plan, timetable and budget and put together a small and dedicated team to get things done — everything from store design through grand opening events.

Buzz —The brand mark, store décor, marketing campaign and interior merchandising all has the “WOW” factor. It’s a combination of pithy messaging, personalized communication and eye-catching graphics. The grand opening events were all in keeping with the “old fashioned service” theme and included root beer floats and other retro treats.

Profit — A few short months after opening, business is booming. Rick has produced everything from giant-sized posters to small targeted direct mail campaigns for his local neighbors. He has been featured in local news media. He is running the business he dreamed about just a year ago.
